My Recommended Compound Mitre Saw:

DeWalt Mitre Saw

Powerful, Robust and Durable. This is the 12″ Dewalt version that will easily cope with most cutting jobs that don’t require a Sliding Mitre Saw for those really wide cuts.

If the 12″ saw is a little big and intimidating, you might like to choose a smaller 10″ machine like the Metabo 10″ Compound Mitre Saw with Laser Marker and single Bevel. A little bit better on the hip pocket which is good but is still value for money and would suit the beginning woodworker.
